Channel 4 opens Nations and Regions “Business Boost” programme

Channel 4 has opened its 4Skills Business Boost 2025 programme to indies outside of London.

The newly restructured initiative has been set up to help develop business and leadership skills at independent production companies.

“Channel 4 is proud to champion the growth of independent production companies across the Nations and Regions,” said Channel 4’s Head of Partnerships, Nations and Regions, Kevin Blacoe.

“Through the enhanced 4Skills Business Boost 2025 programme, we’re investing in the next generation of creative leaders—whether they’re laying the foundations or scaling to the next level – providing support that’s right for them. This initiative reflects our deep commitment to nurturing talent and strengthening the creative economy outside London.”

It will offer 2 distinct schemes: Business Boost Foundations and Business Boost Next Level depending on what stage the indie is at.

The former is aimed at smaller and early-stage indies, with a turnover of less than £3m, to build business and leadership foundations. This includes tailored financial management and development strategy advice as well as leadership training.

Business Boost Next Level, is for medium-sized or fast-growing indies in reaching the next stage of growth. It offers an extended programme of tailored, expert support around key growth areas.

“The Business Boost pilot provided crucial business and skills development support to Nations and Regions indies during a difficult period, and the feedback from recipients was really positive,” added Channel 4’s Head of Indie Relations Rebecca Thompson.

“We are delighted that even more companies will be now able to benefit from high quality training, consultancy and advice to help them to continue to grow and thrive.”

To be eligible for the Channel 4 Business Boost programmes, independent production companies must have:

  • a primary office and more than 50% of key creative decision-makers based in the Nations and Regions;
  • a track record of producing or developing content for Channel 4;
  • and they must be a qualifying independent production company.
