Prolific North has made a new signing – former Guardian and MEN journalist Sarah Hartley joins the team next week.

Alongside her role as MD for boutique digital training and consultancy company Talk About Local, Hartley will be writing about the digital and creative industries in the North of England for this website.

“We are really pleased that we have managed to secure a writer of Sarah’s calibre to add to the existing core team of David Prior, Stephen Chapman and myself,” said publisher, Nick Jaspan.

“Sarah’s strengths covering regional and national press and more recently community and hyper-local publishing, will no doubt add an extra dimension to our content and delivery. And she joins us at a time when our August traffic figures reached a new peak, which, if continued, suggest in September we will attract over 50,000 unique visitors to Prolific North. An excellent start for a site which is only just eight months old.”

Hartley added that she was thrilled to be joining the team:

“A lot of my work in recent years has been around innovation in the digital space so it seems fitting to be joining a journalism start-up with all the vigour and excitement of a rapidly expanding company which is making a name for itself.

“I’m looking forward to re-acquainting with the many contacts I made while working in digital media in the North West as well as helping to deepen Prolific North’s coverage and community of users across Yorkshire and the North East.”

Hartley previously headed up the Guardian’s Local initiative in Leeds, Cardiff and Edinburgh as well as co-founding The Northerner with the then Northern editor Martin Wainwright. Until 2009 she spent almost a decade as head of online for the Guardian Media Group’s regional digital operation in Manchester before it was sold to Trinity Mirror.
