Yorkshire games studios picked for growth

6 games studios in West Yorkshire have been chosen to take part in the inaugural Games Export Lab.

The initiative is being run by Indielab off-shoot, Indielab Games, with the aim of driving international business expansion for gaming companies in the region.

The studios: Bad Reaction, Gas Light, Isokron, Kwizzbit, Vital Culture and Vixentail, will receive mentoring and advice to prepare an export action plan, getting in-depth knowledge of specific local markets, international consumption trends and new technology.

The programme will be delivered in partnership with the association for UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE), Game Republic and Yorkshire and Humber Department for International Trade.

“We have had a wonderful reception to this first ever Games Export Lab and are excited to be supporting games studios in West Yorkshire as they look outwards to the global market,” said Victoria Powell, Indielab’s CEO.

Games Export Lab is supported by the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Creative Catalyst programme.

The companies will also get a funded opportunity to attend industry event, Gamescon, later this summer.

“Indielab runs incredible programmes, packed with inspirational speakers and valuable advice. We learned so much about how to structure and grow our business from the initial West Yorks Indielab growth accelerator that applying for the Games Export Lab programme was a natural next step,” explained Adrian Scully [pictured] from Wetherby-based Isokron.

“The most successful games companies all operate on a global basis, so this will be an invaluable opportunity for us to ready our business and our products to capitalise on opportunities in the international marketplace.”
