“The wipes emanate out from the centre, helping to reinforce the notion of moving forward. For the sequence to work efficiently we had to make sure that our edit flowed.
“We were given access to a huge resource of archive material, which was fantastic to select from . The difficult part was what not to include!
“The pace of the sequence is set by the iconic, driving, MOTD theme tune; the patterned nature of our wipes helped to mirror the repeated tempo of the music, forming a solid visual/audio timeline. Incorporating 3D models and type along the horizon line provides some moments to pause and breathe without having to put a break in the pace.
“Our in-house audio-post team added spot sound FX and sound bites from the commentary, this proved to be another crucial part to the success of the sequence.
“They seemed to captured the spirit of the FA Cup competition in a way the archive footage alone didn’t, so their inclusion really helped to reinforce the passion and history.
“We wanted the sequence to appear as authentic as possible so, built a number of bespoke 3D models including the official 2017/18 FA Cup match ball and the trophy itself, providing a very beautiful image to carry throughout the sequence.
“Models were built and textured in C4D and lit and rendered using Octane, using original artwork generated in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop to provide an extraordinary, high level of detail.
“Rendering was done using our in house GPU Render Farm and composited in After Effects.”
