Radio Leeds, BBC Tees and Radio Humberside are all competing for the BBC Local Radio Frank Gillard Awards ceremony in Windsor.

In total, there are 39 nominations across 13 categories for the awards which were launched in 2000 in memory of local radio founder Frank Gillard.

Humberside tops the list, having been shortlisted in four categories. Leeds and BBC Tees are joined by Three Counties Radio, BBC Oxford and BBC London 94.9 with three nods apiece, according to Ariel magazine.

Just weeks after Tony Hall said he wanted more female breakfast hosts in local radio, Radio Leeds’ Liz Green – one of three women in the job – takes on Radio Merseyside’s Tony Snell and BBC Guernsey’s Jim Cathcart for breakfast programme honours.

Leeds’ Tracy Gee, meanwhile, lines up alongside Cumbria’s Julie Clayton and Lancashire’s Steve Becker for the journalist of the year crown.

Gold, silver and bronze awards will be presented at a ceremony on October 31.
