Sam Barrett has been appointed to the role of Social Chain Media MD, after more than two years working at the social media agency.

Previously holding the role of Publishing Director and leading the media division of the Manchester-headquartered agency, Barrett is a former US Army Ranger who started a career in digital media in 2011, and has since worked at Takumi, UNILAD and Crowd Media.

He joined Social Chain as Sales Director in early 2020, before becoming Commercial Director then Publishing Director.

As MD of Social Chain Media Barrett will hold responsibility for growing the company’s portfolio of brands, as well as overseeing its first-party data-led services and social commerce objectives.

His appointment follows the announcement that Social Chain MD Katy Leeson would be stepping down, and is set to be replaced by Pete Metcalfe, MD of Carat UK.

Barrett said: “Social Chain is such a varied company and our media brands represent some of our most comprehensive and scalable strengths, so I’m incredibly excited and proud to lead this division and stand out as one of the UK’s most prominent publishers.”

Christian Grobel, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Social Chain AG, added: “Our media brands provide an incredible platform to showcase this versatility with the ability for our audiences to engage with our content and to shop directly from our brands. This USP is something Sam and the team at Social Chain Media will continue to drive forward.”
