The foreign office has confirmed that a Manchester film editor and her young son are among those killed in the Germanwings plane crash in France yesterday.

Marina Bandres Lopez-Belio, 37, and her son Julian, aged seven months, were among 150 passengers and crew on board after the flight crashed in the French Alps.

According to her Linkedin profile, Bandres was an independent motion pictures and film professional and a member of the Manchester media group on the platform.

Today her husband Pawel Pracz has released this statement via the Foreign Office:

“My wife Marina Bandres Lopez-Belio and our son Julian Pracz-Bandres were on-board the plane that crashed in the Alps yesterday.

“We have been living in Manchester for seven years. Marina was an editor and colourist, and we were both working in post-production for film and video.

“Marina was visiting her family in Spain for her uncle’s funeral, she bought the tickets at the last moment, and decided to return to Manchester quickly as she wanted to return to her daily routine as soon as possible.

“I’m with my closest family in Manchester, and in close contact with our family in Spain at this very difficult time. We are devastated and would like to request that we be allowed to grieve in peace as a family without intrusion at this difficult time.”

According to the MEN, the Spanish-born mum was a filmmaker who recently graduated from a Manchester film school, is said to have boarded the plane when she could not get a direct flight back to Manchester.

The Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said he believed there was a total of three British people killed in the tragedy, but added “we can’t rule out the possibility that there are further British people involved.”

“The level of information on the flight manifest doesn’t allow us to rule out that possibility until we’ve completed some further checks.

“We are in contact with the families of those known to have been killed, we’re also in contact with the French, German and Spanish authorities and once we have a clearer picture we’ll make a further announcement.”
