The Manchester Evening News has today introduced a colour-coded new look for its print edition.

The Trinity Mirror-owned title has brought in a bigger masthead and a “bolder, brighter look” for its front page.

The changes also include new typefaces and a “simpler layout”, and a new colour-coding system to denote different sections of the paper.

Introducing the new design, the paper said: “If you’re looking for news, look for red, showbiz, entertainment and other features are purple, business news is blue, and sport is green.

“We’ve even colour-coded our City and United coverage with the clubs’ blue or red, so you’ll always know when you’re on the right page.

“We hope you like the changes and we look forward to continuing to be your friend dropping in, now and into the future.”

The redesign comes a year after the MEN introduced a new look for its website.

The paper’s announcement includes a gallery of images showing staff at work at its Oldham-based HQ.
