The new Coronation Street set at MediaCityUK will be officially revealed to the media later today.
Set designers have been working on the project since 2011, meticulously recreating the original Street, but there will be some deliberate differences.
While viewers shouldn’t notice the move on-screen, behind-the-scenes there will be a very different way of working.
On the original Quay Street set, the houses are home to production offices, with all the interiors shot in a studio.
However, buildings on the MediaCityUK version are a lot bigger, so that filming can be done on set. Also the road itself is significantly wider, so that 2 cars can appear at the same time.
Filming is due to commence at MediaCityUK early next year and to coincide with the extra interest, ITV has also completed a new Coronation Street website, which includes previews, online extras, pictures, news and a new characters page. For the first time, it’s available to use on tablets and mobile devices.
