Asda has dropped incumbent agency Saatchi & Saatchi from the pitch for its £100m advertising account.
The Leeds-headquartered retailer, which began its review in June, has decided to progress to the final stage of the pitch with just JWT London and VCCP.
Saatchi & Saatchi had worked on the business for four years having been handed the account by sister agency Fallon in 2009, who in turn had won the account off sister agency Publicis in 2007.
The review has been triggered by a marketing restructure at Asda following the recruitment of Chris McDonough, the former Molson Coors managing director of brands, as marketing director in May.
Saatchi & Saatchi was the agency responsible for Asda’s controversial Christmas campaign last year, which was criticised by some for being sexist:
