Susan Sheridan, who was one of the original cast members of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has died, aged 68.

Born in Newcastle, she starred as Trillian in the radio series in the 1970s and went on to voice a number of children’s characters, including Noddy in the BBC and Cosgrove Hall’s Noddy’s Toyland Adventures.

She appeared as Princess Eilonwy alongside John Hurt in Disney’s Black Cauldron and in the TV series Moomin.

Her daughter, Olivia Brittain, tweeted last night:

“Thank you for all the wonderful messages. We will also be so proud and lucky to have had her as our mum.”

Sheridan trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and won the Malvern Prize for comedy. As well as her coal work, she also appeared on stage, including a ground-breaking production of Howl’s Moving Castle, The Beggars Opera with Barbara Windsor and her one woman show, The Merry Wife of Wilton.

She was writing a book, set to be published this year, entitled Shaking the Spear.
