Star Radio North East has finalised the hat-trick of footballing greats to take part in this season’s Three Legends phone-in show.
Richard ‘Dickie’ Ord joins Malcolm Macdonald and Bernie Slaven for the show, which is broadcast from its Darlington studios
Ord is a boyhood Sunderland fan, who fulfilled his dream of playing for the Black Cats in November 1987. He played 283 games for the team in 11 years and was part of the 1995/96 promotion winning side. Fans immortalised him in the single: Who Needs Cantona When We’ve Got Dickie Ord.
“I’m a local lad born and bred in Murton in County Durham so it’s great to join the local station,” he said.
“I’ve shouted at the radio over the years, especially when Macdonald is spouting on about Newcastle, so it’s great being able to have some banter with him for real. Watch out Supermac I’m coming after you!”
He becomes the third Sunderland Legend to join the show in its 14 year history and replaces Micky Horswill, who left in August.
