Emma Barnett, the women’s editor of the Daily Telegraph, is to present a new Sunday night show on Radio 5 live.
Barnett has previously presented a Sunday show on LBC and has guest-hosted Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and The Media Show.
The MediaCityUK-based station was criticised last week for reducing the number of women presenters who would be solely presenting shows.
Both Victoria Derbyshire and Shelagh Fogarty are to leave the station later this year, with the station introducing a new extended morning programme to be split between Adrian Chiles and Peter Allen.
It’s not yet known whether Barnett will be presenting live in Salford, and what the format of the new show will be.
Writing for Prolific North on Friday, 5 live breakfast presenter Rachel Burden defended the station’s schedule changes.
She said: “I’ve listened to 5 live since I started university, a fair few years ago now, so I never really understood the ‘radio bloke’ tag. I just liked listening to informed, funny people talk about the things I was interested in.”
