Ahead of the evening awards and afternoon conference on Thursday 21 April, we are pleased to announce the shortlist for the Educate North Awards 2016 – jump straight to the shortlist here.
The Educate North Awards initiative is delivered in association with The Daily Telegraph, Barclays, The Alliance Manchester Business School, UCLan, the University of Manchester Intellectual Property, Brinkley Services and the Bird Consultancy.
The award winners will be announced at a spectacular dinner on the evening of Thursday 21 April at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, preceded by a conference in the afternoon, which will showcase best practice and the world-class status of many of the North’s leading HE institutions along with high level presentations and debate and the launch of the University Entrepreneurs Challenge 2016.
Our outstanding panel of judges met and went through the dozens of entries last week.
Educate North – The conference
The theme of the conference this year is Europe: the challenges facing the North and the next generation of entrepreneurs. We are fortunate to have secured a number of outstanding national and international speakers including:
- Greg Dyke (by video) – Broadcaster and Businessman, Chairman of the Football Association and until last summer, the Chancellor of York University for 11 years
- Rt Hon Lord Willetts – David Willetts was Minister for Universities and Science from 2010-2014 and before that was a shadow Conservative Minister. He is a visiting Professor of King’s College London
- Julie Mercer, Global Industry Leader, Education, Deloitte
- Josie Gurney Read, Editor, Education-Online, Telegraph Media Group
and from academia:
- Professor Tim Wheeler, Vice Chancellor, University of Chester
- Professor Nigel Weatherill, Vice Chancellor, Liverpool John Moores University
After the conference, we will be launching the UNIVERSITY ENTREPRENEURS CHALLENGE 2016 supported by UCLan and other partners.
Six companies, spun out of Northern universities or HE institutions, will go head to head in a special showcase which will demonstrate the range, diversity and ingenuity of firms and entrepreneurs emerging from our institutions.
They will face experienced and professional judges who will question their plans and strategy for growth and development.
At stake is a substantial cash prize to invest in their business and the potential support of mentors.
Full details about the afternoon conference can be found here.
Educate North Awards 2016
Educate North aims to celebrate the success and growth of the knowledge sector across the North of England and it is extremely encouraging that in the face of several well-established national awards, even more leading institutions chose to engage in this second year of this uniquely Northern initiative.
Educate North is once again being staged in association with The Daily Telegraph and our partners Barclays, the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester Intellectual Property (UMIP) and two new partners this year in the shape of Brinkley Services and the Bird Consultancy.
Information on the inaugural 2015 Award winners can be found here.
