Journalists at the Daily Post in North Wales have voted to take strike action over potential redundancies.
They say these would “risk editorial quality and create unreasonable workloads for the remaining staff.”
Members of the National Union of Journalists will meet on Monday to discuss the next steps.
“The result clearly reflects members’ feelings that enough is enough and that further pressure on staff is unsustainable. The chapel feels strongly that an already-stretched workforce will be pushed to breaking point by Trinity Mirror’s proposals,” said an NUJ chapel spokesperson.
The move follows the restructure announced in May, which would see a number of job cuts across North Wales and Merseyside.
At Trinity Mirror Merseyside this has already taken place, with long time staffers Neil Hodgson and features writer, Dawn Collinson among those leaving the Liverpool Echo yesterday.
A spokesperson for Trinity reiterated the statement from May 26th:
”There have been some small changes in Birmingham, Liverpool and North Wales as part of ongoing work to have the right resource in place to deliver news our audiences want, when they want it, and to ensure we are continuing to operate efficiently.
“In Birmingham, four new roles are being created, with two existing roles at risk. In Liverpool, six new roles are being created, with an approximate net reduction of two. In North Wales, six new roles are being created, with an approximate net reduction of two.”
