Award-winning opera producer Ellen Kent will bring new productions of Carmen and Tosca to the Liverpool Empire in March.

Celebrated international mezzo-soprano Liza Kadelnik, from the Romanian National Opera, will star as Carmen.

There will be a dance sequence by Caspian, the stallion that has appeared in many films, including War Horse and Robin Hood.

Carmen is the story of the bewitching gypsy girl whose tantalising beauty lures a soldier to desertion and leads to her own murder.

International sopranos Maria Tonina and Alyona Kistenyova will star as Tosca in the other production, with Vladimir Dragos as Scarpia.

Tosca is an epic tale of true love and treachery with some of opera’s best-known music.

The shows will feature local children from local stage schools and include a boys’ choir and shepherd boy’s solo.
