BT has announced plans to create up to 100 “highly skilled” digital roles in Manchester as it invests in its global Digital business.

In total it will be recruiting 2800 staff in the UK and India in order to accelerate its digital transformation and bring more expertise in-house.

A total of 1000 jobs will come to the UK, based around its hubs in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Belfast, Ipswich and London.

These positions will cover product management, software engineering, cloud, design, data, AI and machine learning and agile delivery.

“Digital was founded to accelerate BT’s transformation, innovation and return to growth. To succeed, we need to bring in and upskill the top digital talent, and our efforts will boost the tech communities in the UK and India along the way,” explained Harmeen Mehta, Chief Digital and Innovation Officer at BT.

The company is also seeking to “up- and re-skill” and is developing learning resource, the BT Digital Campus, drawing on industry-leading digital skills platforms as well as proprietary BT learning content.

“We’re hard at work transforming the way BT engages with talent as we add to the type of people we want in the heart of this new business unit. New arrivals will be immediately contributing to the progressive, collaborative, transformative ‘Digital Way’ at the heart of how it works,” added Mark Murphy, Director of HR, Digital.

BT stated that up to 400 of the recruits would be apprentices, graduates, women returners and others starting their careers in Digital. It is also working with organisations including Code First Girls and 10,000 Black Interns to increase diversity.

The organisation has invested millions in transforming its offices across the region, including Newcastle and Birchwood, as well as its move to New Bailey in Manchester’a Spinningfields.
