What Media expands into new Manchester studio space

The What Media team

What Media has taken a two-year lease on studio and production space in Manchester’s Enterprise City district, giving the business its own space to create content for clients.

The agency had previously held resident desk spaces at the city centre location, and is now taking advantage of one of the six new production studios at the site. What has grown to a team of 12 since it initially moved into Enterprise City in 2020, and worked on major campaigns with clients such as Leeds University, The Fragrance Shop, Missguided, Quorn and New Balance.

The new studio spaces, in Department Bonded Warehouse, offer state-of-the-art facilities in a flexible way. They can be used for one-off sessions or leased long-term to give businesses ownership of their creative space.

Department currently operates two fully managed workspaces in Manchester – Department XYZ and Department Bonded Warehouse – with a third location at Department Piccadilly due to be operational in 2023. Department Leeds Dock will open in September 2022 and Department Savile Row, London will open in 2023.

Chris Townsend, co-founder and director at What Media, said: “Department Bonded Warehouse has been an excellent location for us to have our desk-based home over the past couple of years. We are excited to now also have a dedicated studio space within the building, allowing us access to top tier facilities that we can call our own.”

Anthony Powell, managing director of Department, added: “It is so rewarding to see our members expand and to be able to offer them the facilities to accommodate that development. What Media have been with us since the early days of Department Bonded Warehouse and we look forward to seeing what the business goes on to achieve and create in their new facilities.”
