Scarborough Review gears up ahead of summer launch
The company's intended launch comes shortly after another new monthly title, the Scarborough Voice, recently published its launch issue.
The Scarborough Review was initially intended to be called the The Scarborough Independent but the editor Pete Spence opted to change the title once he'd had discussions with a new printer, Yorkshire Web, one of whose directors, Ian Smith owns three independent titles under the Review brand covering Holme Valley, Marple and the High Peaks.
The Scarborough title will be independently-owned but Spence said there plans to share resources and sales initiatives.
The Review will focus on local news, sport and community issues and with his business partner Ailsa Robertson, the paper is also keen to build a new and comprehensive local classified marketplace. Ailsa Robertson also worked for Johnston Press.
Spence, who spent over 10 years working for the Johnston Press-owned Scarborough Evening News when it was still a daily, said that they would be printing 10,000 copies of the new monthly every month with 32 pages of content and 50/50 split of ad/edit ratio.
Spence said: "It is great to be finally set up in our office, although a lot of ground work has already gone into the project.
"We are busy organising our distribution and sales strategies and want to give Scarborough readers and advertisers something they can relate to and be proud of."
