Mediaworks is a full-service digital agency, founded in 2007 by CEO Brett Jacobson.
The agency says it has doubled its headcount to almost 200 in the last 18 months with plans to double that again in the next 18 months.
In the last three years, Mediaworks has opened operations in Leeds, Edinburgh and Manchester, and in that time has widened its digital marketing specialism in finance, utilities, housing, and healthcare.
With 13,000 sq ft spread across two floors at The Watermark, Gateshead, we find out what happens at the agency’s Newcastle HQ.
Samantha Link, group people director at Mediaworks, introduces us to the office…
“The agency has a fantastic environment; there’s a real buzz across the offices where teams meet in different spaces to learn, share, and create great work, not least at the group’s HQ in the North East. Even just walking through our office, you feel an energy that radiates from people dedicated to our clients and a warmth towards each other. People who are aligned in their purpose and talents.”
Where is it?
Mediaworks, Honeycomb, The Watermark, Gateshead NE11 9SZ.
How big is it?
The Mediaworks office space spans 13,000 sq ft across two floors at The Watermark, Gateshead, providing an open-spaced work environment for up to 200 people. Situated along the waterside with beautiful views across the River Tyne, we offer an inviting social space with a large kitchen and relaxation area, multiple creative spaces with our colourful Town Halls and breakout rooms, plus a range of different meeting areas to accommodate different size groups.
Last year we took on extra space in our HQ buildings to offer even more collaborative areas for our teams and our clients to work from. We even drafted in celebrated local artist Mul Draws to add a touch of his unique style.
What happens there?
Our teams work on strategic digital campaigns for clients spanning SEO, performance marketing, web dev, brand, video, social and digital PR. There’s a ton of collaboration across disciplines to produce creative and insight-driven transformational marketing projects and campaigns. We have a blended 3:2 approach to office and home working. That was something driven by the teams and their desire to physically be with each other more often than not.
What sort of work goes on?
We’re a diverse crew with experts in creative, tech, and media. We produce multi-platform content across copy, video, and photography, and design and develop websites, manage performance and PR campaigns, and deliver multi-faceted SEO strategies. We bring together analysts, strategists, and creators, all supported by those dedicated to building and nurturing relationships in our sales and support functions. We also run team-building and upskilling sessions regularly from our HQ, including breakfast buffets, lunch and learn sessions, and a bunch of other extra-curricular activities.
Why is the workplace appropriate?
Mediaworks provides a dynamic space for teams with unique skillsets to come together and focus on creating and delivering exceptional and transformational work. It provides a central hub for our regional teams to meet, both for collaboration and social engagement, as well as a warm and welcoming space for hosting our clients and community events – whether that’s client strategy meetings, marketing masterclasses, or industry days for local schools. The space reflects and enhances our culture, offering the best possible environment for people to connect and for talent to thrive.
Who works there?
We currently have 120 colleagues based at our Newcastle office, split evenly across three functions: regional sales, strategy and service, central delivery covering performance, creative, and experience, and our corporate teams including HR, finance, and the executive leadership team.
