A zombie movie set in modern-day China will be featured as part of a new partnership between the University of Salford and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester.
The link means the two organisations will be able to co-commission work from some of China’s internationally renowned artists and the first is Haze and Fog by the Beijing-based multimedia artist, Cao Fei.
“The film examines people up closely and will focus on the middle class who have left tradition behind and entered this new fog of neutral modernity. I’ve tried to focus on the mood of people enveloped by a new, invisible system,” explained Cao Fei.
The works will be exhibited at a permanent collection University’s digital performance lab at MediaCityUK, although they will also be available for loan to other centres.
“The University’s School of Arts & Media is keen to build on this new partnership with potential for exchange of staff and students with art schools in China. This year 10 of our students will work with local businesses in Salford and travel to China next summer for one month internships in Chinese businesses,” explained Colin McCallum, executive director, University Advancement.
The launch event takes place tomorrow (11th October) at the University’s MediaCityUK campus.
