She told Prolific North that Moneysupermarket approached her to become group head of public relations at the Chester-based firm, a role which now also encompass managing its social media.

“I’ll be looking at how social media fits within PR and making things more digitally led,” she explained.

“I am most exciting about working on the Travelsupermarket brand, because I think we can be a lot more innovative here and take more risks.”

The role means that Flaherty will be part of the company’s leadership marketing team and she believes that this will lead to campaigns being a lot more integrated across all media.

“I want us to get better connected with customers and have more daily touch points with them,” she added.

A former Financial Times journalist, Flaherty joined Confused.com in 2009, initially as head of content, she later took on responsibility for public relations and digital.

She’s contributed to 2 social media publications, Social PR and Social Media MBA in Practice, writing about using content and social media as part of a company’s marketing strategy and the fusion of social media and public relations.
