Duncan Slater joins McCann Birmingham as head of business development

Duncan Slater, who has worked in the ad industry across the North for over 20 years has joined the McCann Erickson Central operation in Birmingham as its new director of business development.

He will report in to the chief executive Dean Lovett.

The latest filed accounts of McCann Central, which is part of the Interpublic group, record a turnover of £47m and ptp of £981k.

The Birmingham agency works alongside McCanns’ other main operations in Manchester and London. McCann Manchester, which is based in Prestbury, Cheshire, last year recorded sales of £97m.

McCann Central clients include Vauxhall Motors, Triumph motorbikes, James Villas and Persimmon Homes.

Slater will spend the working week based out of Birmingham returning to his family at week-ends.

Slater was previously head of business development at Origin Creative based in Cheadle, Cheshire.

He began his career in ad land in 1991 as a new biz person for the award-winning agency Huet Timmins.

Other agencies duly followed including Juice, CheethamBellJWT, BJL and two lengthy spells in Yorkshire with Poulters and Attik. He spent seven years at Attic during its main purple patch as the former design agency expanded out of its original Huddersfield into Leeds and internationally.

He moved back to the North West in 2007 when he joined Origin.

Origin picked up the B2C award at the inaugural Northern Marketing Awards this July for its work for Manchester United.
