Jaywing has announced the hire of Alex Race as head of user experience (UX) for the Sheffield-headquartered agency.

Formerly head of UX and design at British Gas, Race headed up a 25-strong UX team there.

Brían Taylor, digital managing director said UX was a key part of the agency’s make up.

“Alex is a key hire for us and we’re delighted he made the move from British Gas to Jaywing. He brings impressive UX experience from a brand setting, where the users range from electricity, gas and homecare customers who have numerous sales and customer servicing needs, to Hive users who control their heating from their mobile devices. As this complex product range and variety of customers requires both a breadth and depth of UX knowledge, Alex will bring new insights to our team.”

During his time with British Gas, Race developed the user experience and design functions, and delivered digital experiences across the company’s multi-channel offerings. Prior to British Gas, Race worked in UX for Nokia Mobile Phones for nine years, cementing his depth in understanding of brands and the application of UX.

Jaywing’s UX work has a particular focus on cross-platform design and Race will manage the delivery of user research, early stage concepting and requirements gathering, as well as information architecture design and wireframing to both existing and new Jaywing clients.

Race takes up the position with immediate effect, reporting to Creative Director Matt Powell and Digital MD Brían Taylor and will be based in the Newbury office.
