Several local UTV-owned radio stations have secured commentary deals with their local football clubs.

Among the new partnerships is a deal between Signal 1 and 2 in Staffordshire and Cheshire and Stoke City FC.

This is in addition to existing contracts between Pulse 1 and 2 in Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale to broadcast every Bradford City match; Tower FM in Bolton and Bury for live commentary on every Bolton Wanderers game and Radio Wave in Blackpool providing exclusive live commentary of every Blackpool FC match.

In rugby league, Wigan Warriors, Wigan Athletic and St Helens are covered by UTV’s Wish FM, while Wire FM covers Warrington Wolves across Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn.

Group programme director, Terry Underhill, told RadioToday: “Although we are predominantly music stations, we are committed to providing the very best in local radio and supporting the sports teams in each area is one way to confirm our relationship with our audiences. UTV’s investment in sport is well known and at a local level it is as important as ever to provide this important service.”

UTV Media (GB) is based at Birchwood Park in Warrington.
