Manchester IT specialist Sync has teamed up with Guide Dogs to support the charity’s Tech for All scheme.
The scheme is aimed at improving the wellbeing and autonomy of children living with visual impairments through assistive technology. It provides free assistive technology to children with a vision impairment aged from three to 18 in the UK. The devices come with accessibility features built-in to facilitate use outside of the classroom.
The continuation of the Tech for All sservice follows its pilot scheme in 2021, when 5,000 devices including iPhones and iPad were given to children with visual impairments, and Sync will be supporting with the procurement of devices moving forwards.
Tech for All reports that it has helped to significantly improve children’s confidence, creativity and independence. The results of a survey completed by users indicated that after just four months with a device, a child’s reported autonomy increased by 18 per cent, engagement by 13 per cent and sociability by five per cent on average.
