Red Dwarf’s Kryten helps Cheshire agency demystify tech jargon for streaming client

Cheshire-based LOVELIVE Agency has transformed a client’s complex data-driven messaging into a sci-fi journey across the solar system, with Red Dwarf’s Kryten lending a hand to simplify technical jargon for a broader audience of data practitioners.

It follows the delivery of a rebrand campaign for Streambased – a leader in data streaming technology – last summer. This time, LOVELIVE was briefed to raise awareness of its innovative solutions amongst an audience of 150,000 global organisations using the Apache Kafka open-source data processing system.

Using everyday language, relatable analogies, and practical examples, LOVELIVE brought the space-themed educational entertainment video to life with the voiceover of Robert Llewellyn, the Red Dwarf star who played the mechanoid Kryten in the sci-fi TV sitcom.

The film highlights how Streambased unlocks real-time insights, instantly, to inform analytics, business intelligence and workflow. It also promotes the firm’s LOVELIVE-devised tagline: Explore More Raw – shining a light on the benefits that its instant deeper data analysis software provides.

The film has just been showcased at Current London 25, the national data streaming event, and is also being utilised across the tech firm’s communications channels and sales and marketing collateral.

Macclesfield’s LOVELIVE – leading strategic creative partners amongst the healthcare and professional services sectors – delivered initial conceptualisation and script writing, asset creation and final high-end animation of the film.

Garrick Middleton, creative director at LOVELIVE, said: “We first partnered with Streambased in 2024, when we were tasked with creating a bold and impactful campaign to create cut-through and enhance brand awareness in what’s a highly competitive industry. Using innovative AI solutions, we not only delivered a visually stunning marketing campaign, but also redefined Streambased’s brand image. We were, of course, delighted when we were invited back to deliver this latest brief.

“Our in-house creative and animation team blended sci-fi with humour to craft a relatable, narrative-led metaphor – unleashing the power of stealth learning, or education in disguise. The result is a piece of ‘edu-tainment’ that carries viewers on a whirlwind journey across the solar system, transforming tech jargon into compelling and amusing content, whilst highlighting Streambased’s product and service benefits and the impact their adoption has on business performance.

“In just a two-minute film, we proved that even the most technical subject matter can become accessible through the right creative lens.”

Tom Scott, founder and CEO at Streambased, added: “Once again, LOVELIVE has knocked it out of the park in terms of their response to our challenging creative brief – scripting, creating and producing such a charming video that is, crucially, expertly pitched to our intended audience. The team made the complexities of our business accessible and engaging – breaking down the jargon and focusing on the ‘why’ behind our technology, and the many benefits its adoption brings.

“And it’s working. At the recent Current London 25 event that we attended, feedback from so many prospective customers proved that our brief had been cracked, as they completely understood our offering from the film. One visitor to our stand said that it’s ‘one of the most complete and interesting explanations of our industry, and where you guys fit in, that I’ve ever seen.’ This is no mean feat considering we’re new to the market and so niche.”

Red Dwarf fans, or data-driven messaging fans, can check out the video on Streambase’s website.
