Mighty Giant delivers first rebrand in 14 years for ITV’s Tonight

ITV’s flagship current affairs show Tonight has had its first rebrand in 14 years, with new titles and graphics.

The refresh, created by Manchester-based motion design company Mighty Giant, will debut this Thursday at 8.30pm on ITV1, in an episode of Tonight where reporter Kate Quilton investigates ultra-processed food.

The title’s concept stems from Tonight being at the centre of the story. Rings emit from this central point, combined with footage and snippets of stories the programme has covered, with each emission triggering other ripples and movements. The new palette reflects the time when the show is broadcast, using a sunset palette.

“Tonight is an ITV institution and we were delighted to be awarded this design brief,” said Mighty Giant’s Jonathan Ashworth. “The Tonight team allowed us to push the look and creative and this was a big team project in the studio. We’ve been able to design a look that is equally comfortable as a title sequence as it is on an Instagram post, using bold clean lines and a vibrant new colour scheme.”

Executive Editor for Multistory Media, Laura Caveney-Morgan said: “Tonight has been on ITV for approaching 25 years, so the design brief was to create a new look for the series that feels fresh and yet familiar to our audience and we are thrilled with the vision that Mighty Giant have created.”

Tonight, presented by ITV News’ UK editor Paul Brand, airs on a Thursday evening at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is made by MultiStory Media, part of ITV Studios and ITV News/ITN.
