Board-level shake up at £7m employee-owned Altrincham agency

BDB Global has promoted Emma Simms and Carmen Soggia to its board of directors. The pair take on the positions of executive director – strategy & innovation and executive director – client services, as the Altrincham-based B2B marketing communications agency enters its next stage of leadership.

Former owner and CEO, Matt Smith, remains actively involved with the business as he transitions to the role of executive chairman, while Jenny Mason and Oliver Brewood continue as managing director and executive director – operations respectively.

The new set up marks the realisation of succession plans that were put in place following BDB’s move to 100% employee ownership in 2021, with the board and wider leadership team supported by an employee forum and overseen by trustee directors.

Simms first joined BDB as a graduate back in 2014 and her responsibilities now include spearheading the growth of the agency in the global ingredients and advanced materials markets, both through new business and the continued evolution of service offerings.

Since also starting in 2014, Soggia has provided strategic consultancy to leading B2B brands on both branding and integrated marketing communications campaigns. Now based in Milan, Carmen is responsible for driving client satisfaction by ensuring BDB consistently delivers exceptional service to its multinational customer base.

“It’s exciting to embark on the next phase of BDB, with a new board in place to lead our 65-strong team. Both Emma and Carmen have made significant contributions to the growth that BDB has achieved in recent years, which has seen the agency double in size thanks to our excellent client retention rates and high volume of word-of-mouth referrals,” said MD Mason. “At BDB, we are passionate believers in supporting our team to own their potential. These senior level promotions are testament to our commitment to nurturing the talent within our ranks. We continue to put a strong focus on investing in our people, for example this year we launched a bespoke leadership training programme and we actively promote a culture of growing together.”

BDB Global’s revenue surpassed the £7 million mark in its last financial year (ending 31 May 2024), representing 5.7% growth. Its client roster features leading brands in the global ingredients and advanced materials markets, including dsm-firmenich, IFF and Balchem.
