Lancashire-headquartered Speedy Hire has unveiled a new management structure with a series of key appointments.

The tools, equipment, plant hire and services company has appointed Adrian Murphy as chief operating officer UK. Previously he worked for United Technologies Corporation, firstly as MD for Chubb Fire and Security Systems, and later as a commercial director for its Building Industrial Systems division.

Tony Bennett has been appointed corporate development officer with responsibility for strategy, planning, corporate activity, corporate communications and social responsibility. He was formerly at Office Depot Inc. and the Rentokil Initial Group.

And Ed Cowell has joined as head of major accounts, overseeing sales to some of Speedy’s largest national customers. He was at G4S, where most recently he was global sales director for its risk management business.

Finally, Steve Giblin becomes group health, safety, security, environment, and quality director.

Speedy Hire had a difficult 2013, with the discovery of a £5m hole in its accounts leading to the departure of chief executive Steve Corcoran.

Mark Rogerson, previously managing director for natural resources at Costain, was unveiled as its new chief executive in January.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome Adrian, Tony, Steve and Ed at an exciting time for Speedy. The broad experience they bring from both inside and outside our industry, combined with new internal appointments to the senior leadership team, gives us the right blend of skills to accelerate the implementation of our growth strategy.”
