A former night editor of the Daily Mirror in Manchester who became an established broadcaster has died at the age of 84. Manchester-born Ian Skidmore had a long career in Northern journalism, working on the Manchester City News, Yorkshire Evening Post and Daily Despatch in Liverpool before moving to the Mirror.

E-commerce specialist One iota has been acquired by Midlands-based IT company Sanderson Group for up to £5.43m. Lancashire-based One iota, which was founded in 2010 by Damian Hanson and David Hague, provides Software as a Service technology solutions for retailers including Superdry, Mamas & Papas, Thorntons and Littlewoods.

Cottage rental agency Sykes Cottages has appointed Epiphany to develop its earned media strategy and to partner their internal team, acting as an expert search consultant. The Leeds-based agency was invited to pitch after impressing at a first stage meeting and has now been tasked with growing the brand in the UK market and improving the visibility of the Sykes Cottages name.

Manchester-based agency Digital Next has acquired web development company Xyline for an undisclosed sum. The move will allow Digital Next to expand its web design team and offer advanced website development for platforms such as Wordpress, Concrete 5 and Magento.

Manchester's Mob Films has produced a new TV advert for the Rugby League World Cup, which opens later this month. It shows Yorkshire-born England internationals Sam Burgess and Gareth Widdop on location in Sydney, Kevin Sinfield, Rob Burrow and Tom Briscoe at England's training camp in Leeds and Sam Tomkins in the Manchester United dressing rooms at Old Trafford.

Guy Garvey will be moving to a daytime slot as part of BBC 6 Music's new weekend schedule. The frontman with Manchester band Elbow, who joined the station six years ago, will move from 10pm to 2-4pm on Sundays.

Muppet stars Cookie Monster and Elmo are swapping Sesame Street for Salford for their first CBeebies show. The pair will start filming a 52-part series called The Furchester at MediaCityUK in the new year.
