Global communications infrastructure provider Zayo Group Holdings has launched what it says is the “fastest direct network route” connecting Manchester to New York via its new transatlantic route.
The route provides a direct subsea cable route from Manchester to North America, without needing to route via global internet hubs in London and Paris, reducing transatlantic latency and enabling a better user experience.

The investment in an additional transatlantic cable by Zayo offers immediate access to New York, and as a result customers in the North of England and across Europe will receive faster and more efficient connections to North America.
Europe is currently home to five of the 10 largest global internet hubs. Zayo lists a number of proposed benefits of the new Manchester hub, including faster connections to the US not just for Manchester, but the whole North of England and even Scotland; further direct routes from Manchester to Dublin and Amsterdam as well as Zayo’s three existing routes to London; increased attractiveness for Manchester as a base for both large enterprises and new start-ups, and reduced reliance on London, as is the case with many other IP networks.
The new route also adds bonus lowered latency for customers in The Netherlands, with Manchester acting as an alternative path for packet traffic in Amsterdam, avoiding the heavy traffic centres of London and Paris.
Zayo has already made significant investments in its European fibre platform, upgrading key connectivity corridors between Paris and Marseille, Amsterdam and Frankfurt and Zeus, the most robust and protected connection between the UK and Continental Europe.
