Waiting for Godel: ANS founder’s software firm logs £22m+ annual profit despite loss-making Belarussian sale

Godel Technologies, the Manchester-based software firm launched by ANS founder Scott Fletcher, has increased its turnover from £62.3m to £80.8m for the year to December 31, 2022.

Pre-tax profits went from £20.9m to £22.1m over the same period while headcount increased from from 1,310 to 1,811 according to its latest filing at Companies House.

Fletcher, who set up ANS in his bedroom in 1996, received an MBE in 2014. He sold ANS in 2021, and it has since merged with UKFast to create ANS Group.

Fletcher remains the biggest shareholder in Godel, which was incorporated in 2004 and has offices in the UK, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Bulgaria. The company has worked with the likes of LateRooms.com, Virgin Holidays, Experian, AO, In The Style, Shell Energy and Booking.com.

Godel also disposed of 100% of share capital in Belarus-based Foreign Enterprise Godel Technologies Europe for £3,105 during the financial year, which saw the war in the Russian ally’s neighbouring Ukraine continue unabated. The sale resulted in a loss on disposal of £2,042,262, with sales and purchases made within the consolidated group in which the disposed of subsidiary was a member eliminated in full on consolidation.

Godel, along with project partner Stockport-based musicMagpie, has been nominated for an award in the Transformation Through Tech category, which celebrates projects that have changed the way an organisation looks and operates through digital solutions, at tomorrow (November 9)’s Prolific North Tech Awards 2023.

The joint project entered for the award, named Search, has enabled musicMagpie to transform the journey a customer takes when looking for products on its site, as well as improved the merchandising capabilities of the business.

Neil McMurdo, CEO at Godel Technologies, said: “It’s fantastic to be shortlisted alongside musicMagpie at the Prolific North Tech Awards and be among some of the most innovative tech companies in the North West who are making a big impact in the market. This nomination celebrates and recognises the strong partnership and collaboration between our companies and the work we continue to deliver in transforming the user journey for musicMagpie’s customers.”
