He said: “I’m thrilled to be nominated for this award. I’ve always described presenting Look North as my dream job. To get recognition for doing a job you love is really wonderful.

“Of course, I’ve only been nominated for this award but in the unlikely event that I do win I know the people of Yorkshire will keep my feet firmly on the ground.”

Tim Smith, acting BBC head of regional and local programmes in Yorkshire, added: “This nomination is richly deserved. In the last year, Harry has interviewed some of the biggest names in Yorkshire and beyond; reported from Afghanistan; received the MBE for services to broadcasting and cycled 250 miles over eight days on a tandem raising £150,000 for Sport Relief.”

“His enthusiasm and professionalism are second to none. Harry is a legend in regional broadcasting and a legend in Yorkshire.”

Other nominations for the region include Dan Ashby from ITV News Tyne Tees, who is up for Young Talent of the year, and ITV Yorkshire’s Calendar News, which is nominated in the Nations and Regions News category for its Tour de France Grand Depart coverage. The full list of nominees can be viewed here.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 18 February at the Hilton on Park Lane in London.
