Philips Healthcare has appointed USP Creative to produce the graphics for the radiology department of a Dublin hospital.
It follows work that the Liverpool agency produced for the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital’s MRI scanner.
“A hospital visit can be a very unsettling experience for a child. It’s important that they feel comfortable and settled during their treatment particularly when using the MRI scanner,” explained Larry Keaveney, director at Philips Healthcare Ireland.
“The graphics and illustrations help to turn the equipment into something friendly and non-threatening making the children’s experience more pleasant. USP Creative did a fantastic job on the environmental graphics at Alder Hey, so were the ideal people to take care of our needs at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital.”
The graphics will form the basis for distraction therapy for the children, whilst the scanner is in use. The theory is that if they are calmer during the scans, it reduces the need to administer sedatives and avoids an overnight stay in the hospital.
The underwater theme includes sea-creatures, shipwrecks and hidden treasure. A vinyl wrap is also being applied to the scanner and the room and entrance walkway will be decorated in the same theme.
