Manchester United have clinched a 10-year, £750m deal with adidas, the most expensive kit deal in history.

The German sportswear giant will take over from Nike from 2015-16 after its US rival decided to end its association at the end of the coming 2014-15 season.

The size of the deal means United have trebled the value of their kit sponsor – Nike was paying £23.5m a year, compared to £75m a season for adidas.

Real Madrid’s £31m-a-year deal with adidas was previously the biggest club deal, while Chelsea’s 10-year deal with the company netted them £30 a year.

Adidas will provide training and playing kit to all of the club’s teams, and will also have the exclusive right to distribute dual-branded merchandising products worldwide.

Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer said: “We are excited to team up with Manchester United, one of the most successful and most loved football clubs globally.

“Our new partnership with Manchester United clearly underlines our leadership in football and will help us to further strengthen our position in key markets around the world.

“At the same time, this collaboration marks a milestone for us when it comes to merchandising potential. We expect total sales to reach £1.5billion during the duration of our partnership.”
