Breakout star of The Traitors, Minah Shannon, is set to join BBC Radio 1’s Friday Early Breakfast show throughout May — with a special live broadcast from Liverpool later this month.
The 30-year-old, who became a fan favourite for her warmth and unmistakable Scouse charm on the hit BBC show, will co-host the slot alongside Radio 1 presenter Nat O’Leary every Friday in May. As part of their run, the duo will take the show live to Liverpool on Friday 23 May to help kick off the station’s Big Weekend 2025 celebrations.
“I am so excited to be presenting every Friday in May on Radio 1’s Early Breakfast!” said Minah. “Getting to present alongside Nat O’Leary is going to be so much fun. We discovered we both attended the same university and used to hang out in all the same places, so it feels like it was meant to be!”
Although she was born in Uganda and raised in Glasgow and Birmingham, Minah has proudly embraced her adopted hometown of Liverpool, where she’s lived for the past 12 years. “Liverpool made me who I am,” she previously told the Liverpool Echo. “I met my husband in Liverpool, I had my little girl in Liverpool… I’ll always say I’m Scouse regardless of what anyone says.”
Her co-host Nat O’Leary added: “Minah’s energy is electric, so I know we’re gonna cause some chaos and bring some fun to your Friday early mornings!”
The new presenting duo will take over the slot throughout May, with rising radio talent Lauren Redfern taking the reins in June.
Lauren Redfern says: “Absolutely buzzing to be taking over the early morning breakfast slot every Friday in June! I’ve been loving presenting shows over on Radio 1 Anthems, but now they’re letting me loose on your mornings too! I can’t wait to share my mornings with you!”
Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, says: “The Friday Early Breakfast slot has become a key platform for emerging presenters to find their voice and connect with the Radio 1 listeners.
“I’m really excited about this next wave of presenters – Minah and Nat will be a great team in May, and I’m looking forward to welcoming Lauren to the slot in June.”
