Richard Bowyer has been named the new editor of the Stoke Sentinel following Mike Sassi’s move to the Nottingham Post.

Bowyer was Sassi’s deputy editor twice during his career, firstly at the Lincolnshire Echo in 1999 and then The Sentinel, which he joined in 2006.

He’s worked in the Midlands throughout his life, starting out at the Coalville and Ashby Times, before joining the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, Wolverhampton Express & Star and the Derby Telegraph before heading to the Lincolnshire Echo and Sentinel.

“I feel honoured to take up the role of editor and I am looking forward to continuing to serve the community of North Staffordshire and South Cheshire,” he said.

“Thanks to all the hard work put in by the team, we have a fabulous newspaper and a growing online audience. I am looking forward to the exciting times ahead.”

He takes up the role with immediate effect.

“In the last seven years Richard has worked incredibly hard and has developed a real affinity with our publications and North Staffordshire as a whole and is incredibly well respected in the newsroom as well as by the local community,” said Michelle Gesell, managing director, Staffordshire Sentinel News and Media, which is part of the Local World print group.
