Steven Gerrard takes £350k hit as Merseyside healthy water brand shutters

Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard is among those out of pocket after healthy water brand Angel Revive went under.

The former Liverpool midfielder and England captain pumped £almost £400k into the brand, which was run by Gerrard’s friend Mike Doyle and established in 2017.

Gerrard, along with fellow investors who ploughed about £2.5million into the business, are believed to have lost most of their investment after the business closed with huge debts.

Gerrard owns a 25 per cent stake in the Merseyside company, whose website states it is now “permanently closed”.

The Sun reports that Gerrard has had £50,000 of his investment back, but remains about £350k down on his investment.

Angel Revive claimed to be the only naturally alkaline water brand produced in the UK, adding that its water “trickles down through multiple layers of mineral rock across the Pennines into an aquifer, a naturally formed underground chamber deep in the earth protected from all outside contamination.”

The firm’s most recent micro accounts, filed with Companies House last month for the period to July 31 2024, showed a net current liability of £542,220, including unpaid rent of £286,265, with the remaining total commitment for the whole lease term, including the accrual to date less payments made, of £398,353.

Previous accounts filed in 2022 noted that “The company is dependent on the continued financial support of the directors and shareholders,” although they added that the directors at that point considered the business to be a going concern and it would continue to operate.

Gerrard is believed to be in the frame for a managerial return to Ibrox after Rangers sacked Philippe Clement in February. Former midfielder Barry Ferguson has been in temporary charge since then. Gerrard previously managed Rangers for three years from 2018, winning the Scottish Premiership in 2021, but left the Glasgow club to take over as Aston Villa manager. Villa sacked him in October 2022 after winning just two of his first 12 games in charge. He then took up the manager’s job at Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq, but left by mutual consent in January.
