Shiver makes Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans for ITV

ITV has commissioned a new series from Shiver Productions, which will see Paul O’Grady travel to Africa to meet animals orphaned in the wild.

The production company is an off-shoot of ITV Studios and based at MediaCityUK, Leeds and London.

The 3 x 60 minute series has the working title of Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans and is slated for transmission in January next year.

It follows the O’Grady-fronted For the Love of Dogs, which was also produced by Shiver.

“It’s been an unparalleled gift because for an animal lover like me I’ve been allowed access to all sorts of creatures. Everything from a penguin to a baby elephant, not just through bars but to actually get involved with them and to see how they are looked after, to see how they will survive in the wild when they finally get released and remarkable doesn’t even cover it,” he said.

The series was commissioned by Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV’s controller of factual, the director is Jill Worsley and executive producer, Mark Scantlebury.

“Paul’s passion for and connection with animals is palpable. He is the perfect author for this series that will be emotional, entertaining and enlightening in equal measure,” added Clinton-Davis.

Shiver is also producing a one-off festive special of Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs at Christmas. He’ll visit the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home as staff prepare for Christmas.
