Sheffield Uni AI spin out appoints storied chair

DigitalCNC, the pioneering AI-driven precision manufacturing software company recently launched by Yorkshire AI Labs in collaboration with the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), has appointed Professor Keith Ridgway CBE as chair of the board.

Professor Ridgway brings extensive experience in advanced manufacturing and academia-industry collaboration. A native of Manchester, Keith earned his mechanical engineering degree and PhD from the University of Manchester (UMIST), initiating his career with Mather and Platt Ltd and Kennedy and Donkin Consulting Engineers before transitioning into academia.

In 2000, he co-founded the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing at the University of Sheffield, significantly advancing the collaborative model between academia and industry. Professor Ridgway’s distinguished career includes roles as executive chair of the Advanced Forging Research Centre at the University of Strathclyde and the establishment of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland. He currently serves as chair of Industry Wales, appointed by the Welsh Government.

Professor Ridgway’s achievements have been widely recognised, with honours including an OBE in 2005 and a CBE in 2012 for his contributions to manufacturing research. He is a fellow of several prestigious institutions, including the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
