Manchester-based marketing agency Offended has announced it is rebranding to Good Good Double Good.
Inspired by the left-of-centre ideation of Mancunian legend Tony Wilson, “Good Good Double Good” is a homage to one of his most famous, if unexpected Factory Records signings, the Happy Mondays, despite them finishing last in the Hacienda battle of the bands. The name is derived from the chorus of their track Do it Better.
Alongside the new brand, Good Good Double Good has also announced a new co-owner, Franki Hale, who invested significantly into the outfit toward the end of 2024. The investment has gone into underpinning processes, acquisition of new customers, recruitment, equipment and delivery.
Hale brings with her extensive experience as acting people director for a number of large businesses, including Convergence Group and Wells & Co. both of whom are current Good Good Double Good customers, and a huge network and profile in the people and employer branding space. She is leading the strategy to quadruple the size of the agency within three years.
Dean Tranter, founder, said: “Today is perhaps the most important day of our journey, five years to the day since the company was founded. I’m really proud of everything we accomplished as Offended. It’s a business which took us from the sofa of a flat in Manchester writing proposals and adverts to afford beans on toast for tea, to flying first class to the Philippines to work on adverts for Ladbrokes. However, we aren’t sitting still and this change I think represents where the business is at. A good team, working with good clients on good work.
“Tony Wilson has always been a huge source of inspiration to me and his ability to talent-spot and manage (often wildly unpredictable) creative talent. I think Offended has always had a bit of a Factory-esque approach and I certainly want to further harness this with Good Good Double Good. All of this just with a more positive and uplifting message better suited to the team we’ve pulled together and one which hopefully doesn’t require so much bloody explanation.”
The agency’s recent campaign for Totally Stockport, On the Up!, which saw the agency beat entries from 52 other marketing businesses, has been nominated for three Prolific North Awards and one Town Centre Management award. It was this campaign which inspired the reasoning for the change.
Moli Evans, creative director & managing partner explained: “Totally Stockport – On the Up was probably the first indication of a significant move away from Offended, and finding a name we felt better suited the work we were excelling in creating. This was further compounded by the introduction of Franki Hale and the influence she has had over the business as both a customer, mentor and now director.
“The Offended ethos of challenging boundaries and conventional wisdom will always remain, but our new name and brand represents the group that we are and how good we are at what we do.”
