Real Radio XS auditions for Sweeney co-host

Real Radio XS has begun auditions for a co-host to keep breakfast presenter Mike Sweeney on track.

It says more than 500 people applied to for the role, which is described as “keeping Sweens on time, under control and giving him a gentle nudge (or push) in the right direction.”

“We’ve had a massive response to this.  Over 500 people applied via our website, so we’ve had to close it down early.  Oodles of radio experience isn’t a pre-requisite, just a love and passion for Real XS.  There’s a real bonafide job in this for the right candidate and we’re confident we’ll find the right person to handle Mr Sweeney of a morning!” explained Real XS’ Mark Matthews.

The first on-air auditions have included a lab technician from Bury, called Sooty and student from Salford University.

It’s not the first station in the North West to hold public auditions for a co-presenter role. Juice FM in Liverpool ran The Recruit in April to find a replacement for Leanne Campbell while she was on maternity leave.
