BBC Radio 1 presenter, Greg James, has become the Creative Director of Sheffield’s Crossed Wires podcast festival.
The move will see him become a co-owner of the business behind the festival, alongside Alice Levine, the co-host of My Dad Wrote A Porno; James O’Hara, the co-founder of Tramlines; and Dino Sofos, the founder and CEO of Sheffield’s Persephonica.
As well as the Breakfast Show, James also hosts the Tailenders cricket podcast with Lancashire’s, soon-to-be-knighted James Anderson and former Maccabees guitarist, Felix White.
“After banging on about how amazing podcasts are for 20 years, I’m glad the world’s finally caught on,” he said.
“I went to Crossed Wires last year to see what all the fuss was about and immediately fell in love with its ambition and mission statement to not only bring some of the biggest names in the industry to Sheffield, but to find the next generation of on and off-air stars from it.”
Sofos said that more announcements were set to be made next week, ahead of this year’s festival, which starts on 4th July.
“Greg James played such a big role in last year’s event, so it seemed quite natural for him to join the team in an official capacity,” he stated.
“We couldn’t ask for a more talented, ambitious and well-connected Creative Director to help us grow the festival over the next few years. He’s already pulled in some amazing shows for this summer’s festival that we can’t wait to announce over the coming weeks. Watch this space!”
Levine added:
“Year one was a knock out and we are going even bigger and more ambitious for year two.
“There isn’t a live event like this in the country; a combination of smash hit podcasts, a free fringe making top quality talent accessible to all, after shows, meet and greets for fans – filling multiple iconic venues in Sheffield city centre.
“We really feel like we are growing something very special and we’re very excited to have Greg on the team.”
