Yorkshire-born November will replace Laura Mackie, who is leaving the channel to set up her own company with Sally Haynes, controller of drama commissioning.

November had been acting director of drama since Mackie’s announcement in January. He joined ITV Productions in 2000 as story editor at Emmerdale, becoming producer in 2001, and went on to produce Coronation Street from 2006 to 2008.

ITV director of television Peter Fincham said: “Steve will be a brilliant director of drama. He has a fantastic eye for a storyline and a keen awareness of what makes ITV drama audiences tick. Following the incredible success of Broadchurch ITV drama is in great form and this is an exciting time for us to set our sights on future successes.”

November said: “It has been fantastic working with Laura and Sally during such a successful period for ITV drama, and I am delighted to be taking on this role. We have an incredibly strong production community in the UK, and I am looking forward to working with them to continue the success of our drama output.”

November is understood to be based at MediaCityUK.
