Wander Films has been going wingwalking for a new BBC documentary.
The North East indie is behind The Ultimate Wingwalker which airs next week on BBC One.
It follows the world’s only formation wing-walking display team as they prepare for their first show of the season and attempt a daring new aerial manoeuvre in front of a live audience.
Three years earlier, Kirsten and lead pilot Dave made headlines after being forced to ditch their aircraft into the sea during a show, narrowly escaping death in front of stunned spectators.
Middlesbrough-based Wander filmed with them for 3 weeks as they practiced a new routine – The Heart Break. The new move requires strength, skill, precision and an “unwavering focus on safety.”
However, their limited practice time wasn’t helped by poor weather.
“We’re buzzing to bring our second full-length commission to the Our Lives series,” said Executive Producer and Wander co-founder, Lou Tonner.
“We wanted this one to match the adrenaline of our last film and when we met Kirsten and the team we knew this was the story to tell. Their energy, skill and fearlessness made it a no-brainer.”

To film the action, the production team mounted 360° GoPros directly onto the World War 2 biplanes, to capture every angle at over 140mph.
“This film is full of good vibes, showing a highly skilled team doing something they absolutely love. We’re super proud and can’t wait for people to see it,” added Executive Produced and co-founder Chloë Clover.
The film was directed, filmed and edited in-house, with the final mix and grade delivered by True North Post.
Our Lives airs on BBC One at 7pm on Friday 18th July and is available on BBC iPlayer from Monday 14th July.
