New Century has launched a new initiative to give a career boost to grassroots Manchester musicians, including Access Creative College (ACC) and dBs Institute students, with their ‘New Century Unplugged’ showcases.
Every other Thursday, local Manchester musicians will take to the stage, performing acoustic songs for diners in the historic Manchester venue’s Kitchen space.
New Century is partnering with Access Creative College and dBs Institute to launch the bi- weekly showcase tomorrow, August 15, bringing music students from their campuses on Oxford Street and in the basement of New Century respectively to the stage, giving them an opportunity to build performance experience and begin to build a local following, and providing an exciting night of music for locals.
Following the launch, each New Century Unplugged will feature a rotating mix of local Manchester musicians, as well as a permanent slot at each showcase for students from ACC and dBs.
New Century has a long history of supporting the music industry since its inception in 1963. The venue upstairs has hosted acts including The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and The Bee Gees, and more recently has a packed schedule of renowned acts including Jungle, Alvvays, Graham Coxon and The Zutons.
The Unplugged showcases are an opportunity for New Century to further their aims in using their incredible space to produce exciting, new musical talent.
“It’s an honour to offer this unique opportunity for local acts to launch their careers, on a site as rich in musical history as New Century. New Century is built on the foundations of community, and this is a way for us to provide a platform for the music community of Manchester, at a time when grassroots music needs a boost. We’re pleased to showcase Manchester talent and hope to see New Century Unplugged acts performing in New Century Hall upstairs in the years to come,” said Louis Paterson, marketing manager, New Century.
New Century Unplugged is free entry for all, but visitors are encouraged to partake in the incredible food and drink available on site. Local musicians can register their interest to perform at New Century Unplugged on the New Century Kitchen website.
