A new Dreamliner plane has been named by listeners of Metro Radio in the North East, following a tie-in between Thomson and Bauer.

Thomson is the first UK airline to use the 787 Dreamliner and the week-long competition was to promote flights from Newcastle International Airport.

Listeners to Steve & Karen’s Breakfast Show decided upon Angel of the Sky, which will be painted onto the side of the airliner.

“We have been blown away by the fantastic response to the name our plane competition, receiving some brilliant suggestions and we think ‘Angel of the Sky’ is a perfect fit. We liked the link to the unique Angel of the North, which is of course symbolic of the North East,” said  Carl Gissing, director of customer services for Thomson Airways.

Steve & Karen’s former producer, Mark Cliffe, has just been promoted to the role of content controller at Metro and TFM.
