Manchester Evening News editor “on secondment” to Leicester Mercury

Rob Irvine, the editor in chief at the Manchester Evening News has been seconded to the Leicester Mercury.

It’s because the Mercury’s editor has announced that he’s quitting the regional daily next week for personal reasons. Kevin Booth had held the role for 18 months.

Today Trinity Mirror told Prolific North that Irvine’s position at the Mercury “will not affect his role at the MEN,  and his editorship continues as per normal during this period.”

The publisher also confirmed that he would remain “in the short term” until a new appointment had been made.

The Leicester Mercury had been part of the Local World group of papers, until it was acquired by Trinity in October last year.
