Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has joined a host of elite sports players investing in sports media disruptor, ScorePlay.
The tech firm was founded to help the industry find a “smarter way to manage and monetise media assets.” Initially working with Toulouse and AS Monaco, it’s now used by more than 200 organisations around the world.
In its latest fundraise it’s signed up footballers, Cody Gakpo, Raphael Varane, Ada Hegerberg, Mario Gotze, Edouard Mendy and Trybe Ventures (Alex Morgan). It’s also got backing from cricketer, Pat Cummins and former F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg.

“I’m happy to share my participation as an angel investor in the recent funding round of ScorePlay,” said Gakpo.
“One of my core interests that I am currently exploring off the pitch is startup investing. In the case of ScorePlay, I was personally very impressed by Xavier Green’s and Victorien Tixier’s drive and vision for the company and how many clubs and leagues already use their solution. In addition, ScorePlay strongly overlaps with my profession as a football player. The digital platform structures and automates content creation in sports with the help of AI, thereby drastically reducing efforts while also improving quality.”
The $13m fundraise was led by 20VC and Seven Seven Six.
The content technology is used by teams in the NBA, NHL, Premier League, LaLiga and BundesLiga.
